Hurricane Nigel is swirling out in the open Atlantic. Aircraft recon has researched the storm and found 85-knot (100-mph) winds around a very large eye. NHC’s Eric Blake mentioned mid-level dry air and light shear disrupting the convective structure. Hence, the predicted rapid intensification did not pan out. The storm may still reach Major Hurricane status before weakening over colder water. The track is away from land. Nigel will complete ET by Friday, but is no longer expected to re-intensify into a powerful bomb-cyclone.
