Good Evening!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! The National Hurricane Center put up a Lemon drop on the Tropical Weather Outlook to remind us that Hurricane Season is about 10-weeks away. However, this non-tropical low is not expected to reach the technical definition of a subtropical or tropical cyclone. However, it will have some precipitation, winds, and look like a decent storm system on satellite imagery until it moves northward and merges with a frontal boundary.

The storm is typical of subtropical latitude cut-off lows that develop circulations and sometimes transition into named storms. It’s not unheard of, just infrequent!

The SSTs are in the 70s where the storm circulation is pulling warm, moist air around a convective band or shield. There is a cold-core trough at mid-levels and some evidence of a surface low pressure. However, it’s not going to bother anyone.

Storm Reports from powerful Severe Weather System

Storm Reports | Last 3-days

This was a major severe weather outbreak with winds and tornadoes costing dozens of lives. It is heartbreaking and frustrating to see anyone lose their lives in a storm especially when we have the technology and capability in the world to avoid such calamities.

Storm Systems + Precipitation Type Next 8-Days

Weirdly enough, our next storm system for Wed-Thurs will be a major snowmaker, but not necessarily any significant severe weather. We’ll see if the blizzard criteria is met for the central Plains with strong winds and heavy snowfall.
