Huge Texas Winter Storm and Weekend Nor'easter decreasing potential
Good Monday Evening!
With the Winter Storm moving off the East Coast, we will get a little break before the next storm system takes shape in Texas and potentially (outside chance) becomes a blockbuster Nor’easter.
Top headline will be the amount of snowfall in North Texas including Dallas.
Otherwise, very cold temperatures will settle behind the Arctic front that has blasted through Texas and the Gulf Coast. Subzero temperatures will continue in the Central Plains over the snow cover, which isn’t going anywhere.
Monday Evening Weather
The last bit of snow showers will move through Washington D.C. this evening maybe adding another inch or just a dusting. Otherwise, some Lake Effect snow showers will continue across the Great Lakes.
On Tuesday, scattered snow showers continue across the 4-corners.
North Texas Winter Weather Threat | Thursday
Over the next 8-days, ECMWF 12z has a surge of moisture across Texas with a Gulf of Mexico low pressure — connected to cut-off trough over Mexico — that slides ENE off the Carolinas. However, ECMWF 12z and none of the ensembles develop the system thereafter.
Note that ECMWF HRES 12z has 13”-15” of snow across Dallas into Oklahoma, and then 6”-8” into Little Rock. Thankfully, that does not extend to Atlanta, for now.
EPS Ensemble Median 50th Percentile
9-inches for the Ensemble Median is wild.
And 75% chance of 6-inches+ for Dallas-Fort Worth.
Amazing to see the Snowfall Matrix from the Ensembles and consider this is Dallas and not Boston or Minneapolis.
