Extreme Arctic Blast Next Weekend

Still under the weather, and resting, but I had to show the crazy weather model updates for the next 2-weeks.

First, the 850 mb Temperature Anomaly at Day 7 — next Sunday morning — is a strong ensemble mean signal Canadian Arctic cold along the axis of the Rockies, Central Plains, and into Texas.

The upper-level trough is negatively tilted from Hudson Bay to Texas (Day 7 Z500-Anom)

I don’t think there’s much doubt about an extreme cold period ahead. However, again the HRES (Control) is advertising one of the most extreme outcomes with 2-meter temperature anomaly of -40°F to -50°F sinking southward into the Plains.
